AVA are a bunch of fools, really. They generalise all of us and then ban everything. On the bright side, though, they recently legalised the keeping of Litoria caerulea. Any sightings of this frog lately?alcohologist;1803125; said:i'm totally with you on that... load of BS AVA tells us. a blanket ban is the lazy, simple solution... and us responsible keepers suffer. i've toyed with the idea of getting a couple of those aro feeders myselfbut i'm more a herp guy... sadly.

Lol. We have little choice though...virtually everything's illegal here. Oh yeah we're deviating from the topic. Why don't you try a pede or two? They're very easy to maintain and lots of fun to watch (when eating). Just don't handle them if you're overly nervous.alcohologist;1803350; said:oh yes... xander actually has/and is keeping em.
as for me... amphibs dont do much for me
Yep, this species of mine is communal. That's how the fish shops don't go broke (they would if they had to keep like 50 centipedes in 50 containers). Because mine is pretty small (12cm) I don't use a water dish. I just mist the tank everyday and the pede drinks from the sides of the tank. Larger individuals NEED water dishes though. Centipedes can rapidly die of dehydration. My last pede died of desiccation after I forgot to mist the tank for a few days. In all other respects they're really hardy. The species available in our fish shops as arowana feeders grow to about 8" (20cm) maximum.alcohologist;1803357; said:i've thought about it, actually. might try it one of these days.
can they be kept in groups? now i'm thinking of a planted viv with a couple of these guys. would be relatively inexpensive, so what the heck. how do you kept them watered?
Nah in my experience this species (Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans) isn't a very avid burrower, unlike other species. Mine has never burrowed despite living in a tank with a sand substrate. A great display invertebrate!alcohologist;1803378; said:hmmm. i suppose they would burrow if i had them on soil? there goes my planted display...
i doubt they would be seen most of the time though. i want to make sure the amazing red colouration is visible through my vegetation.
