Provided that the caudal peduncle hasn't been compromised the tail has a chance of regenerating. Keep an eye out for secondary infections due to trauma.
If it was a 3in GT it was left alone way too long with the oscar to do that much damage. I would make sure hospital tank is around 82 degrees with plenty of aeration. Also would be using some aquarium salt but don't over do it. Do water changes daily.
LOL,that must have been one Hellish overnight for the Oscar.In the photo it looks as if the caudal peduncle is gone,if so I don't see that growing back.Are you sure your buddy didn't try to eat him?

It won't be a completely bad thing if it does wind up deformed....just take care of it and give it a good life.Well...we will just have to have a deformed pet.
