Any super efficient "cheap" folks out there reduce aquarium temps over the winter?
I just got my electric bill  LOL I'm running my tanks at 80 but now I'm thinking about reducing that to 78? maybe 77?

Any thoughts?

I didn't do any actual calculations, but my guess is the difference will be negligible for that small a temperature decrease.

Yeah, I'm going to give it a try. Might not even notice a change?

I run my tanks @78 during winter. In Summer I often without heaters with just heat from the lights and pumps and hold 78-80 with no added power.

I do pretty much the same thing, but do keep the heater running in summer to make sure it doesn't go below 80.

75 on the community tank and I'm going to pull heaters from my 3rd tank for cold water fish. The 55 will be heated when fish go in it (hospital tank). That makes one 90g at 75*, one at 60*, and a 55g will be cold when not in use. The others 2 I have (20g and 15) are indoors and ~72* with minimal heater use.

I have also added a shipping blanket over the heated tanks for insulation.

I do. Usually run them around 79 in the summer and 77 in the winter. Of course, with all the breeding projects going on downstairs it seemed pretty pointless to drop the temps in my display tanks. So this year I'm just letting them go as they are.
