I was aiming towards red eye tree frogs but they seem kinda boring. SO now im going towards dart frogs. Ive got a few plants and have all my media's etc for a nice living soil. Just waiting on stuff to start the background and get it planted. Does anyone have any set ups that they would like to share?
Id love to hear all about it as far as temp, humidity, what you feed your frogs and what types you have. Lighting on the tank, misters etc. Post away!
Bro, I don't know much, but what I DO know is find a reliable reputable breeder/dealer of Pinhead Crickets and Flightless fruitflies that can serve you at LEAST weekly. Keep them like Mbuna, species-tank only, 1M to 3-5F but you can do that in a 10g. if you MUST.,..... 20-30 better.
Opposite reptiles, if you use a heat mat, stick the heat mat in the MIDDLE of the underside of the tank,, not on one side to create a hot spot - Amphibians are not reptiles and we will place it in the middle to create a mild minimum ambient temperature, instead of 2 extremes for reptiles. IF you use a light, keep it at 20 watts or lower. 80F to 85F is fine, but the humidity must stay high. Live plants are also a must, with Bromeliads being the #1 preferred by FAR, since they breed in the actual base of the plant which holds water itself. The Bromeliads' reservoir-center will provide more than enough water for the tadpoles' very short larval stage. The only exception is assimilating brumation/dry spell for breeding. You do NOT want any amphibian drying out. If you leave home or go on vacation, set-up a mister/humidifier on a timer to go off twice daily.
Amphibians must be kept moist , but tropical must be both moist AND warm, but with out overheating, drying-out and such. Avoid lights and ceramic heat-emitters since they produce dry-heat. Heatmats will heat the outside of the tank helping you maintain humidity much easier. Keep it between 70%-95%, but allow no standing water besides a water dish. Mist daily. There's more, I just can't think anymore atm....I never kept them, I only helped a friend take care of his while he wasn't there 2 days a week. Holla at me, if u got more questions...I'm kinda blitzed right now
