any tips on when she lays would be awsome, this is my 1st so open to all comments and advice, thanks

She looks 'bout ready to pop.
You're getting a fry tank ready right?

Once she lays just scoop the eggs up and put them into the fry tank and wait.
Do alot of water changes, like 25% a day and keep the fry fed and you'll be good.

my 55, the water is alittle low so the air pump is bubbleing kinda loud, i think thats the sound you hear lol

Nice fish. The male looks like a super aggressive guy, be careful with him both when eggs are laid and then again whent hey become wigglers, males sometimes become a bit overprotective, and that tank is way too small for them to get away from each other. If youve got somewhere else to move the parents Id do that once eggs are laid (she's ready when her vent is sticking way way out). Moving them out will alleviate the need for constant water changes (2 midas in that size tank will dirty it quickly) and reduce the chance of contaminants killing the eggs. It also diffuses adult aggression towards one another. From the size of your fish and the size of the female's belly I'd guess you're looking at thousands of fry so more than you'll probably want to raise.

I usually do a water change the day eggs are laid and then dont do one again until the fry are free swimming and capable of getting away from the suction hose. Because you aren't feeding them until then there is little waste production and little need for changing water. Also, too many water changes stunt the growth of fish by removing essential nutrients from the established water the same way too few stunt their growth by creating an abundance of the wrong toxins. Feed fry newly hatched brine shrimp napulii for the first week then slowly transition to powdered staple foods (new life spectrum grow being my personal choice and undoubtedly one of the best if not the best choice).

Fry grow more quickly if raised in their natal waters, don't know why but as a second best the smaller the tank the better. If they can lazily dart about eating what comes to them they'll grow quicker than if it's a constant scramble for food.

Hopefully that helps a bit.

ya thnks for info, the tank there in is just for them to spawn, i would def not house them in ther for a long perod of time. ya her tube is sticken out quite a bit. o the fry need live food or will frozen brine shrimp work well
