I was paralyzed from the waist down from breaking my back. An unproven radical surgery using the tip of my hip to fuse 2 vertebrae together restored my legs. I only have a total loss of knee and ankle reflexes. I was on active duty in the Navy then. I was given some time to see if rehab could help me regain muscle and balance enough to stay in the Navy. A year later, I took the physical readiness test and passed. I was able to remain on active duty until I retired at 20 years. I only have occassional creaks and aches in the repaired area but, count myself as lucky.
Because of the repair, my regular retirement became a retirement with disabilities compensation. Therefore, I'm a member of the DAV.

I am 39 yrs old. I have had 16 surgeries, and a bad experience with Cancer.
I currently have Epilepsy( due to a dent in my head from daughter's dad), Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Colitis. Tumours in my back, Bad discs, bad knees, a bad hip, sciatic pain. Osteo-arthritis, diabetic, COPD, blood problems, and now they think I have Lupus....

Wow I feel horrible for you! How in the world did all this happen to you? Thats alot of auto immune disease's! Did each auto immune disease set of another? Were you born diabetic or what? and may I ask how old are you?
i think this thread is wonderful... when people read this thread, i hope they come to a realization of how lucky they really are...i did, no offense, and i'm not being boastful. i'm sorry to hear about all your problems people, but i'm glad to hear that you all continue to live on.. and stick with this awesome hobby...

I got diabetic at age 10 yrs old. Diagnosed much later. Just thought that blood sugar crashing was normal after playing when people got hungry lol.
