Well, there's only one other way to get them apart when the seams are that close, and it isn't a good one. You have to use a wedge to separate opposite panes and force the seams apart.
Yea that's what we eventually tried and one panel ended up with a large chip out of it and the other started to crack. Oh well. Now I have some experience for the next one and I know the importance of adding in spacers lol
