I totally agree with you on a clutter free tank, have you considered using an inline heater vs a submersible ?
 
another way to get away with a clean look is to cut pvc in half. Paint it the same color as the background and run the wires through the half piece of pvc

you can get suction cup straps or glue it to the tank make it big enough for the plugs to go through though...maybe 3/4 inch cut in half would do the job however i dont have any sitting next to me to measure for sure.
 
So if I get this correctly you have a mess of wires or a few wires strung from your tank to an out let? If so thats the same problem I had; so I tore a hole from the current out let to behind my tank and added another outlet behind my tank. Then I layed in some drywall painted and bam all the wires are hidden. Also Triply is right cut a piece of PVC to match the corner of your tank and then paint it run your wires up and out thats how I've run my air hoses in.
