Hi guys, I have a 75 g reef aquarium, and I was looking to upgrade my filtration. Until recently my reef had no fish in it, and so, with an awesome protein skimmer, powerheads, lights, and water changes, 55g worth of filtration was fine. Now Ive added some fish, and would like to upgrade. Although Ive had bad experiences with canister filters, I am looking at the eheim wet/dry mod# 2227. Any recommendations? Reviews? Other filtration suggestions? Thanks for the input guys.

eheim are good but are a pain in the but to work with as far as filtration upgrade you looking to do a wet/dry trickle filter, canister, sump, or Fuge?

Not really sure. I need something, and I need it fast. Ive dealt with the marineland magnum canister filters, which although made in the US and backed with awesome customer service constantly break down and require a huge amount of maintenance.

What Ive seen about eheim is that the water is very clean, they last forever, and are not difficult to maintain. I dont really have the room or money to install a wet/dry sump setup, although this is what I had on our 125, and if I could I would use this system. Basically I am looking for the best filtration I can get on a 75 for less than $300. I would do anything as long as it allows for some chemical filtration, and works as its supposed to. Which unfortunately is not a common feature on most filters today.

you could search some DIY sites and build your own sump with a fuge in it and a protein skimmer compartment and play around with some ideas to get something that your looking for then something that is on one item but not all and the rest of what you want on another product.

I dont really have the room, money, or set up to do a sump, especially something that big. I already have a remora skimmer, and im pretty partial to it, so I dont really want to replace that either. Ive looked into sumps, pumps, ect...and I cant find a setup for less than $300.

for now then just use your canister and maybe make a side saving's for a sump or something as such down the road for the system

I had two 2217's on my 75 gal tank and it works awesome. Reason for two is I was too cheap to buy powerheads for water circulation. I found both the 2217's on here for sale pretty cheap.
