I'm thinking if I should buy a juvenile Jau catfish. I heard they are quite aggressive. I just want to know if I can keep him with my other cats like ripsaw or jau will bully them

Lost my 9" jau when my 8" hemibagrus vareigatus jumped over the divider in my grow on tank and tore him to pieces. My jau was not aggressive enough to even fight back and never recovered from the attack.
dazzapolypteruswyeeksii bought one at the same time I did too, he may have better experience.
Victor (thebiggerthebetter) will too but his are much bigger and in bigger accommodation.

My personal experience points otherwise as one of our jaus when it was 2' bit off a pectoral spine on a 3' and 25 year old Oxydoras niger aka ripsaw catfish. But people's experience can and do vary wildly.

Still, jau are a moody fish and indeed aggressive to their tank mates, when they enter into their territory or their liar / corner. Mine two 90% of time tolerate their tank mates entering their space but then 10% of the time they snap at and bite RTC, pacu, TSNxRTC, piraiba, paroon sharks, Distichodus, etc. I won't go into how they fight with each other, two 40" jaus going at each other... The key is for the tank mates to learn and keep away. If they fail, they will be crippled.

I'd not place timid fish such as large Doradidae, IDS, even channel catfish with jau personally.

They are a hard, hard fish to house in a community.

More is in my thread on our jaus.

Sorry to hear that. Imo hemibagrus genus is the most aggressive catfish especially the wyckii

Ok i changed my mind. I was thinking if I would buy a juvy jau or a juvy bagarius suchus. I'll go for suchus cause he's less aggressive

I didn't mean to dissuade you. Just warning to be prepared and what to expect. They are not very active, nor flashy but a cool fish for their character, no bland personality, unfortunately it comes out when interacting with tank mates... so one needs to be prepared to isolate them if need be... and they grow humongous, the one at Shedd's in Chicago looks like around 6', so pretty much none of us mere mortals can dedicate a 50,000 gal tank to keep one jau solo. One would probably rather opt for a 3' GATF. Jau tank mates can be added but very carefully and need constant vigilance and supervision and be prepared to stomach the loss of tank mates.
