My backyard pond has been so ransacked by raccoons, that it looks like an POW camp now - which kind of detracts from the "beauty." Without resorting to concertina wire and/or electric shock items, are there any other ideas out there?

Dont put it oout if theres any dogs or cats runnin around, get some rat poisn, it comes in little bricks just go look at walmart, set up 1 or to around were the racoons are coming that will get em, i know from expireince

you could always use humane live animal traps and catch them, then release them elsewhere (not so good for the racoon territory-wise, but i doubt that's your concern), or call animal control, they'll try to help you catch him. just, you know, i'm an animal lover as well as a fish lover... :)

I love animals too, but a raccoon eating my fish would not be very welcome lol. I once my dog treed one in my backyard, which is funny because he was about the same size as the raccoon lol

off topic, but i saw a funny pic with a story where an orange tabby cat treed a small black bear in his yard, not once, but twice. the bear was like, 6 times the size of this cat. :D and i totally understand the racoon problem, but hey, don't you love an all-you-can-eat buffet just waiting for you?

Borrow a manchester or jack russell for a week or so.

They make a motion activated sprinkle but it'a about $99.

you may be able to borrow 'have-a-heart traps' from Animal control or SPCA for just a refundable security deposit. Now this may sound mean, but after you catch them, harrass the heck out of them (nothing to hurt them)- spray them with the garden hose, bang on the cage with a stick and holler at them (to make them fear humans again), then take and release the as far away as you can they usually don't come back or bother anyone else either.

If you decide to try this don't bother telling anybody that you are, just get it over with. Then return the traps and say they left on their own. No harm-No foul.

Remember we all love PETA.:grinyes:

You can purchase a motion sensor water squirter. When the racoon approaches the pond, the sensor is triggered and a quick jet of water sprays across the pond and area scaring the racoons.
