Are there any smaller cats with big cat personalities? I like active cats, but I also like to handfeed my fish. I love the looks of TSN, RTC, pictus, etc. Im looking for something that only grows to about 12" give or take. Anything like that? Tankmates would inlcude dats, plecos, wolffish, etc. I dont like how Limas look either. Thanks.

Not really tbh.

If TSN is your thing maybe one of these http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=755

They grow to like 20" though, other than that its a Lima, the rest of the big shovelnose etc are all 3' or more.

The ones for aquariums really are tigrinus, lima, juruense and the one I just linked, all the others get 3' +.

Thanks for the info. How are the personality of the cat linked? And how big do juruense cats get and what are their personalities like? What about the Pimelodus or whatever they are called? Thanks.

Basicaly like any other shovelnose really, fairly placid unless it can fit it in its mouth, if it can, it eats it lol.

Juruense is like 24" and same again really, all of the shovelnose catfish are the same really personality wise.

As for Pimelodus, its actualy a genus, depends which one you mean, pictus? there are a few different ones, and tbh I dont know much about those, my love is shovelnose catfish.

Check out that site I linked though, they have a massive catalogue of catfish, you can even choose to search from that one I gave you with sizes close to etc, very good site.

How about a gulper?

thats the perfect size and personality for me, they can eat too big of things though haha. the dats arent huge, and i would be worried as ive seen them eat arrows double their size on here! thanks for the suggestion though!

Gulpers are cool, but I cant see it working with the tankmates, I would imagine you would end up with a fat and happy gulper in the end.

Correct me if I am wrong though, never kept one, just from what I have read and see they are called gulpers for good reason :grinno:

Thanks! So are the Juruense similar to a RTC in personaility? Ive never owned a TSN or RTC, but i've seen alot of good personaility RTC vids and stuff, but they get way too big haha. But would a Juruense be pretty tame and accept handfeeding failry easily?

Yeah, im not too familar with the Pimelodus genus either, I just know some get around 12-15" and more, but im not sure how their personalities are. I love my pictus, but they dont interact at all with me when I handfeed my other fish.

Thanks, im a member of planetcatfish too, but i dont think i could get my hands on alot of those catfish, as some seem pretty rare.

You can hand feed all shovelnose really, they can all get pretty tame.

How bigs your tank? how about a fire eel? I know they arent catfish, but if big personality is your thing you cant go far wrong with a fire eel, theyre like puppys.

right now just a 55g grow out. in May though, I will be getting a tank between the 150-280 gallon range and will be transfering the fish over there. so as long is it doesnt grow more then 9"s in a couple months, I should be good. If it does grow that fast, ill have a friend house it for awhile.
