When I have juveniles that I want to grow out faster, I feed them four times a day. And nothing packs on size like fresh/frozen market shrimp and live feeders once a week in addition to the four times a day. I know a lot here are against using live feeders. But I have my own safe supply.
With the shrimp, I like to use the kind with the shell on. I just make sure to cut the tails off and cut the shrimp into bite size pieces. For everyday feedings, I use Hikari Cichlid BioGold and Hikari Cichlid Gold along with frozen krill and frozen bloodworms.
If you have a PetSmart nearby, print out their webpage with the Hikari food on it and take it to the store. They match their website prices and it's half the price on their website than it is in the store ($9.99 on the website vs. $19.99 in store for BioGold).
