I know most people decide to "move up" after breeding guppies, but I know that there are some people who still breed guppies for certain varities and stuff. Is there anybody like that here? Just curious.

I breed them but not on purpose. Threw them in as feeders but they keep reproducing! I prefer monster fish but they are tough little guys. I put one in my nano reef and its doing great! ha ha

how fast do guppies reproduce ? i get tired of buying feeders and i cant always find time to go out netting for mosquito fish .

Well, are you buying feeder guppies or fancy guppies? Feeders breed very slowly...fancy guppies breed much faster. A female will drop about a dozen babies a month.

No guppies but I have just gotten into Endlers live bearers. They are hardly monster fish unless you can count their breeding as a monster reproduction system. Very small and I am examining them trying to see if there are particular traits that I can develop through line breeding. Haven't seen anything intriguing yet along those lines but I love the wild ones that I have just the same.

Haha.. try 50 to 100 if you have a well grown female :nilly:

Only problem with raising them as feeders is that they take a while to grow to a decent size. Means you need a big tank to rear enough to feed many fish.

But yes if you get a good vigorous strain they breed faster then rabbits :D

Cheers

I have hundreds, just cut back on the breeders to switch some tanks to africans though. We're still debating how many guppy tanks to keep, 3 or 4 tops :p. Also have a few tanks of Endlers cuz they sell like hotcakes :).

Before my fancy gups wound up as food, they would drop 50+ a month. I also find that wild guppies drop fry faster but in a smaller amount.

that's why people have a second tank with fully grown feeders while they let there others grow :)

I breed feeder guppies in my 150g pond and the number seems to have reach almost 200.:shakehead
