Oh...cool...any good LFS's over there?

Have you heard about the "Aquarium Mall" over at Taikoo Shing? It used to be a whole bloody mall packed with fish shops but its just one small section left bu tthey still have good stuff for good prices especially if you love predators and exotics...

I actually used to live in Kornhill, which was like a 5min walk to the Aquarium mall, but sadly the place has gone down hill pretty quick, and from the whole mall selling fish, its now turned into the back half of the mall... what makes it worst in a way is that its got to the point where only a quarter of the back section supplies fish (mix of F/W and S/W) with the other back quarter selling supplies...

Honestly, imo it seems like the place is ready to shut down completely as far as fish sales go... although with that being said, there is a pretty good LFS near by Kornhill / Tai Koo Shing called "No.8 Aquatics" or something like that...

Unfortunately i don't have the guys business card atm, but the shop owner is very friendly and always willing to help and give PROPER advice... and if he's not sure, he actually tells you that hes not sure rather than giving you the usual B.S trying to get you to buy more stuff...

But now that i'm living in North point again, i just normally head out to MK since they have a much larger selection of fish, and prices can be a fair bit cheaper...

Also if your looking for some really exotic fish from Central Africa, the congo basin etc, you should check out this shop in MK called "Welko Hong Aquarium" is on the 1st floor of Yee Fai Building, No. 147 & 149 Tung Choi St. MK... you will see a gate and a yellow door bell on the side with the name in Chinese... but they get some pretty interesting fish based on seasons, and not things you normally find around the MK area...

Even things like Fahaka puffers, Congo Puffers and MBU Puffers can be found there as well as other exotics...

Oh, yeah...it's only one lane of shops now. But they have stuff really cheap still, so they're alright. My gran lives around Taikoo so I walk over there every time I'm at hers, when I'm allowed. It used to be so awesome, with fly river turtles, herp shops, huge marine shops and the lot...I remember...too bad I hadn't gone saltwater then and wouldn't touch it. Now a large portion is furniture and electronics...not that anyone would go down THERE to shop for those either...
Yeah I remember my cousin giving me a glowing review about the place. It's pretty small so you don't notice it at first do you. I only found it on my way back to my gran's once, when I stopped to admire a white labrador that was sitting at the doorway of the shop. I thought it was a bar, because of the blue glow coming from the tank lights. I was surpised it was a fish shop. I can fully agree the guy is an actual fishkeeper...it's a shame it's a small shop though. Gotta appreciate something like that...I came pretty close to taking a Carinotedraodon (spelling?) irrubesco for $30...but I had no space. $30...that's an amazing price for one of the more exotic puffers...
Yeah...you know at MK where at one end of the street there's the Esso gas station? Behind that there's two more fish shops...both reccommendable. One stocks a fair selection of fish that no one else stocks (channas, gulper cats, other betta species etc.) and the other does cichlids, bettas and turtles.

Do you keep reptiles? There's a couple of good herp shops too.
Have you been to Urban Jungle? They are probably the best in Hong Kong. All the guys there are friendly and knowledgeable. I'd highly recommend them if you're into herps. There's two other herp specialist shops that I'm aware of that are good too. Just look at the signs above, in and around the stairwells...any other herp shops that you know about?

There's also a massive, massive herp store near um...the flower market. I mean massive. It's almost the size of a small parknshop. Newts, turtles, snakes, lizards, everything. But the staff are like prejudiced...I'm pretty much a KID and the first time I walked in there they treated me like they were expecting me to knock something over, tap on the glass of all the tanks and exclaim "cool" when I saw the snakes. And they told me to stop disturbing their customers when I struck up a conversation...I usually go there just to look around and then take my business elsewhere, unless something irressistable comes in...like a siren...
Hm....is it Weiko the one with the blue logo? Don't really remember it but will look for it the next time I'm over there. It's on the main street right? Sounds like a must-see...thanks!
Do you do saltwater as well or just freshwater?
