Hi guys I've got 2 redlines at about 8cm (3-3.5 inches) one is larger than the other, I received them slightly battered as they had previously been fighting when their were more of them together. Since I've had them (few days) they seem to get on fine. I've been away for most of the day and came back to find on both of them white blister like markings close to their head.

They are in a 6footer with convicts I run a 36watt UV clarifier so don't expect to get diseases, they are feeding on Krill, shrimp and blood worm. Admittedly it has been ages since I cleaned the filter as its a huge canister filter and every time I've cleaned it it really hasn't been bad at all as theres not much load on it. I did a partial water change a few days ago. If I can get a picture I'll post it.

They always keep scraping themselves on the heater or gravel too like they are scratching themselves but I've seen that behavior in other fish and I highly doubt it would be white spot as I know what that looks like and since running a UV clarifier I've never had an issue.

Any help will be appreciated it might not be anything but I'd rather be safe than VERY sorry

The scratching themselves part sounds like an internal parasite. I'm sure if you post some pics some of the experts around here will be able to diagnose your problem. Hope they get better.

Sorry this was the best I could manage. They are inquisitive luckily but my camera won't take clear underwater pics :irked: But you can see the white stuff sticks out on top of his head I hope that gives enough to go on.

Is it possible they could burn themselves on the heater? It is set quite high as its a single 300W, and it seems rather quick to appear from when I saw them 8.30am and than at 5.30pm, the smaller of the 2 has it only slightly compared to the bigger one.

That could be a possibility, I would still treat the water with an anti parisitic both external and internal. You may also lower the water level as they may be jumping and bashing their heads on the top.

How sensitive are they to treatments? Should I keep the dosage low? I have at hand INTERPET Anti Parasite to treat white spot, flukes and slime disease and Wardley Fungus- Ade to treat fungal infections and fin and tail rot.

Towards meds theyre ok, its salt that they are sensitive towards.

" the white stuff sticks out the top of his head" ,lets have some clarifacation on that please. is it a white patch on his head ,or is there something on his head and if so what does it look like ? (cotton wool , string ect.)

if white patch only , i personally would give it a day or so to see if it gets any worse , as from the pic it does look like typical jumping injory , on the meds i would also prefer melafix and piamafix ,there a lot less harsh and natural ingreadients

cheers col
