For a 5 gallon? I've never heard of a snakehead that small and to my understanding rams needs a 20 gallon min?

I would suggest going high tech planted with good lights and ferts. For stocking you could make it a all shrimp tank or even shrimp with a betta or change the betta with something else small. You could always go with a nano reef; those are pretty BA is you ask me. I've yet to set one up but they can look amazing if done properly.

I would bump that 5 to a 10 gallon, I can't see a college having a big deal with a 10 gallon fish tank. It weighs less full then the majority of students there. Not to mention a 10 gallon gives you quite a few more options.

when I was in college, I had a 20 gal "extra high" which was essentially the same size as a ten gallon, just twice as high. It worked out great, because it took up so little deskspace. I highly recommend it. As for what you can put in a 5, there really isn't much, but you could look into a colony of small livebearers. Maybe some least killifish or red pictas, or you could always just do guppies. I'd recommend the 20XH, though, to give yourself more options.

wow, thanks for all the ideas. do u think i could pull off having a small colony of multies?

and in regards to the fish tank max size for a dorm room, i was told by someone that colleges that allow fish tanks only allow a 5 gallon tank.
idk if thats true or not. does anyone know otherwise?
