Any ideas for a 5 gallon setup?

I think with a 5 gallon I'd go for something other than a standard 5 gallon setup. First I'd look at external filtration- those TOM Mini Rapids canisters look decent for a small tank.

I like the suggestion of bumblebee cats- do a little tank with a bumblebee cat or two and set the tank up to look huge. Put in decorations that are tiny buildings, tiny people, tiny cars, whatever you can find. Then you can add feeder guppies with some regularity, and have other fish in the tank.

Or do invertebrates or some other aquatic animal. A "blue lobster" should be ok in a 5, as should something like a xenopus.

Blue lobster would be very cool for freshwater....quite entertaining as well.

My school didnt set a limit just said fish welcome. I started with a 2 gallon, got a 10, got another 10. They really arent that big of dicks usually. Plus you can bring it in at 4 in the morning, and noone will ever know.

An African clawed frog would be really cool and entertaining. I dont know if Im allowed to reccomend an amphibian. I now use the 2 gallon to breed guppies for my two ACFs (not my fault they quickly overpopulated the tank, they breed faster than the frogs can eat). I have two ACF in a 10 gallon with sand substrate a huge ball of java moss and sponge filters. The feeder guppies are quite comfortable in there and breed in the java moss too.

Do u think i could manage to keep a pair of L260 plecos in a 5 gallon, and try to breed them?:D
