Yes get him a tank mate....He needs a friend. I have always had great luck with Sevrums that are sized close to the Jack. Or you can try getting a small school of Danios.

My opinion i would not start him on feeders.. just simply because it will introduce disease.. the only safe feeders are ones you raise yourself.. and he is doing so well on pellets don't ruin a good thing.. he is beautiful.. and i think he will come around.. he just needs time.. and maybe a tank mate would help..
 
Yeah I suggest some dithers too. Also you can try this: Try pulling up a chair and sitting by the tank for 15 mins a day, let the fish see you and get used to you. Hopefully it will start trusting you.
