Any ideas what plant this is??

Hygrophila difformis (wisteria) can fragment and float as well. It's kinda difficult to tell if it's water sprite or wisteria from the pic, but my first thought was wisteria.

Yes it will die, it's not a shade plant.

They sure do look a lot alike, heheh.
 
it definatly is watersprite,and the stuff i have tied to driftwood in the tank is growing a heck of a lot better then the stuff that is floating
