Ok, so on the 29th I sold a Motoro Ray pup, my Arrowana and my Clown Knife to a local guy here.
He has a 250 gallon tank and in it was already a 9" Motoro and some kind of Catfish..

The pup I sold him was just under three months old. Eating great and active.
Arrowana was 2 years old. Ive had it since it was little, when sold it was 19+ inches
Clown Knife was also about 2 years old, had since it was little and it sold at 17+ inches.

So the guys takes the guys home to his house.
Said he acclimated the ray for just over 2 hrs...
The Arrowana and Clown I dont think got acclimated since he only brought a 30 gallon tote with him to take them home in.
He only lived 5 min away from my house..

So I got a message from him on the 1st. He said the Ray was eating great, swimming around and going ok when he sef her just before going to bed. Said it was the second or third time he fed her that day and she ate like a pig..
He had her divided off from the rest of the fish in the tank as I told him that would prob be best for awhile. That his 9" Motoro might be to hard on her at first. Since she was going into a new tank, I thought seperating her from everyone in the tank was best. He said he did this.
Well when he texted me on the 1st, he said he had just got up and found her dead. Even though she was fine the night before and eating well.

I asked the question... water readings, acclimation time, etc...

So told him sorry man... it happens to rays sometimes when being moved. Stress, new tank, etc.. it just happens from tiem to time.
(She was the strongest pup I had to so seemed kinda weird to me, but it does happen..) Told him I would give him a discount on another pup when I get more..

Ok today, I received an email from him saying the Arrowana died. Never ate while he had it. It was in his tank for 5+ days.
Same tank everything else is in.
I had that Arrowana for at least 2 years. Never had any problems with him. He always ate (time to time he would go a few days without eating, but never more than 3)..

What the heck... Said the Clown Knife is eating now after not eating for 3 days when he first got them.. but is doing fine..

Just wanted to post and see what yall think..

These fish can go weeks without eating and be completely fine. Something else probably killed them: stress, bullying, disease, etc. He may have told you they were divided but how do you really know? I recently got a wild caught 9" festae from a friend and she didn't eat for the first two weeks and then slowly began eating for me. 2 months later she's doing great.

My opinion is that eating/not eating had nothing to do with them not making it. Whether there was something wrong with them before you sold them is impossible for anyone here to know for sure. It is much more likely that (if your water conditions are good) something in his water/environment lead to their deaths.

Had to be his tank his water? Possible!

I agree, eating had nothing to do with it in my opinion. Fish in the wild can go weeks without eating.. I just wanted to give you guys all the info I had.
And also as you said, I have no idea if he really divided the Ray or what the acclimation process was on any of the fish. Once they leave here, it was out of my hands on that. I gave my advice, but people do their own things.
Fish were fine here, eating and active. My water is were it needs to be. I have other fish in the tank the Arrowana and Clown Knife came out of, a Pair of Motoro;s and Silver Dollars. All mine are doing just fine. So it had to be his tank in my opinion.
I figured it was stress fro mthe move or something to do with his tank..
I also had sold another Motoro pup to another couple a week before. That pup is doing fine. No problems at all.. so again, my guess is that this guy has something going on in his tank we may not know about. Weird how now two of the three fish I sold him are dead. One being a 2 year old healthy Arrowana and other being a 3- month old motoro pup..

Sounds like his tank water or he didn't acclimate them properly. Extra bio load could have spiked his ammonia if he didn't have enough filtration.

agree and good point

the fish were healthy and alive when he left ur doorstep, dont let his neglagence or in exp cost u money!

Bad enough ur old fish died anyway, id be kinda mad.

Agree, can't see how this could be your fault considering he had every opportunity to inspect the fish before taking them home.

It was nice of you to offer him a discount but I wouldn't offer up anything else

Oh i was very pissed when I got his message this morning saying the Aro had died. I told my wife nad she was upset also.
But i also have to step back and know I made the choice to sale the Aro and the other fish. (Took me a long time to decided if I wanted to even sale the Aro and Clown) Our new set up will not work for the Aro and thats the only reason I decided to sale him..
