This is a video of the water coming from my return, I looks to me like micro bubble maybe? if its not micro bubbles I am not sure what it is? you can see the cloudy looking water shooting out of the returns I tried to get close up to show you what it looks like but its hard tell the camera can't focus that well that close.

Its close loop so no air can enter the system?

Sure looks like microbubbles to me. Has it been running this way or have you changed something lately?
 
Nope thats how its always been, never really had micro bubbles before until I stiched to this pump. This pump used to be on a reef, No idea how to make it go away really
 
Hello; Could it be cavatation? My understanding is that some impellers will at certain speeds cause the gases dissolved in a liquid like water to leave as bubbles in the low pressure area created along the impeller surface. Can the speed of the pump be altered?
 
Hum interesting I can't do that, but maybe I can place a gate valve on they system and use that to dial back flow and see if that helps, thanks for the idea I have never even heard of that.
 
If it was cavitation, you would hear a crackling noise coming from the pump. If a pump isn't running right, air disassociates from the water, and collapses into the impeller, and could eventually ruin the impeller.
Do the micro bubbles rise or sink. If not bubbles rising, it might be breakthru from your biological media. The new pump might be sucking particles that were stationary when you had a much smaller, less powerful pump.
I get that kind of temporary cloudiness after I rinse out a powerhead sponge, it settles after the sponge ages a bit.
 
My pump is loud maybe this is whats going on, its a used pump and the impeller shaft has groves all in the magnet from the previous users getting sand in the shaft. So maybe I need to buy a replacement impeller, that's 100.00 bucks down the drain :-)

As far as seeing if the bubbles or what ever its hard to tell because the tank is essentially full of this stuff. I can with the turn of a vavle remove the bio filter and have only intank from below the water and return below the water.
 
If its a loud hum, that's not cavitation. If it crackles, or rattles, that may be and a pitted impeller shaft could do it. You don't want it to cavitate long, if the impeller wobbles, it could damage the place the shaft turns in and ruin the entire pump.
If the biomedia has a lot of gunk, taking it out and rinsing in "clear aquarium water", and putting it back, after a settling period, could be a determination test.
 
I will make a video from behind so you can hear, I guess I will also check to see if its to late and the well that the impeller sits in is already damaged, might very well I got it for 100.00 bucks for a mag drive 50 "5000 gph" I guess if its already damaged I will have to live with it until I can replace it.
 
Hello; This may be more money, but there are speed controlers that can be used. They may be called something else now, but used to be a variable reostat. Essentially a power control that you pluged an electric motor into and would allow for the speed of a motor to be adjusted.
