I am also in the process of trying to breed sevs but so far they have only laid eggs 4 times at about 9 day intervals both adults are gold and after a few days all eggs go white and then get eaten i am wondering if the fact that they are both gold might have something to do with the eggs not being fertile any thoughts ???

gold ones do not have any inherent fertility problems, they are just another color. i think you may have a pair of females though, or a male that is too young or too old to fertilize the eggs.

it would have to be to young bought them as babies at differant places I am pretty sure that he is a male differant cloaca I did move her with another male Green but not getting along well just yet thought maybe i would give them a couple daysand see

For potential spawning sites, grab a large peice of flat rock (Slate) and bury it under the gravel/sand, with only about 10%-20% of the rock visible. The sevs 'dig' the rock out and lay thier eggs.

i bought a tank off a guy, he had three in there and he said they bred a few times but nothing successful. I did the same setup as hime and two bred w/in a week, there was about 40 eggs. Two of them guarded the eggs and terrorized the other one. They are about 5 inchs long.
I gave the terrorized one to my mother in law. But my problem was that all the eggs were infertile. They started claer and eventually they all turned white and were eventually eaten.
I've been trying to get pictures of them but I can't tell the difference of the two i have left and I haven't been able to go over the mother in laws house to see if i could see a difference. Would two females still guard the eggs?

Is it possible that two females would still lay eggs and be protective over them?Twice in a month i've had them lay eggs and guard them well. But they are all infertile by the end. I dont see any squiggles on the face and their coloring is similar. One is slightly larger than the other but i'm still sad.
Thanks - chris

yes. a pair of females will defend their eggs just like a male/female pair. males of breeding age should definitely be showing facial 'worms'.
