I like these guys (Nandus nandus), they are the largest nandus and get about 8" and as mentioned can be a pain to try and wean to pellets, they will happily eat earthworms though. I like them because you can keep one in a relatively small tank, even a 20 g will work and they will not pick on fish they can't eat.

Malaysians (Nandus nebulosus)are generally a little darker and more distinctly mottled, they have a deeper body in porportion to length (slightly), a comparitively larger mouth, and are only about half the size as adults, four inches is pretty large for one. they have similar needs and habits but can be kept in a desk top tank as small as one of those 7 1/2 gallon ones (16"Lx8"Wx12"T).

They do get a little longer than 4" but around 3" is more common, great miny monsters, very hardy. Treat like the Nandus nandus, just smaller, I have had a 3" one eat 2" mollies and black skirt tetras. Not much info but here is a link http://ecologyasia.com/verts/fresh-fishes/malayan-leaf-fish.htm

Nice one guppy!

When i first got mine it was jus under an inch long, so i put in my 22g which had a few tetras still in it. coz of its size in comparisin to the tetras i thought it would b ok.... 10min after goin in it had a pencil fish the same size as it hangin out of its mouth........... now i didnt expect that, lol. U dont realise how much they can fit in!

hes lookin well now anyway
