Any interesting African hybrids?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Pretty much like every random hybrid. I don't think it is unique to Africans. There has been a lot of time and effort put into flowerhorns and even then only a small percentage looks good (thai silk excluded as they have them breeding true from what I understand).

Thai silk are overrated

From what ive seen there is nowhere near the amount of variation brought to the table when crossing africans as CA. You might get a different color /pattern. But then thats really all africans have going for them color/pattern. Yet the take up more and more of the tanks at every LFS in my area and it makes me sick. Tangent there srry but anyway yeah.

Word.... africans in general are boring. If you want pretty colors and no substance skip straight to SW and be done with it.

I am puzzled as to why people who think African cichlids are lacking in body shape differences likes ca cichlids so much. Discounting pikes, angel fish and discus(all of some SA cichlids) the rest of new world fish are shaped like what people think as average fish.

.

Not just body shape, but also the size, pattern and color of SA/CA are more variable than Malawian. You have 15" Amphilophus versus 5" Thorichthys. You have red in Festaes and Salvini, green in Green Terror and Green Texas, yellow and orange in Vieja and Nic, and black in many species. You have leopard pattern in Jaquar, bars and strips in Festae and convict, and blotches and dots in Veija species. Then there are different kind of humps from straight up in Nic to oversized balloon in Midas. The veriation is just endless in comparison to mostly blue and only one fish with hump in Malawi.
