Any large fast growers fish as recommendations?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ive never owned one, but i heard they can be hit or miss, they can either be the ones to cause aggression, or they can help keep the peace, they will eventually outgrow the cichlids, and need a bigger tank
I think my 4,800 gallons pond is enough, but I agreed about the fact that they are hit or miss. I owned one before, it was peaceful, extremely peaceful, but after I separated it from the other fish, and let it lived alone for a whole month, and once I put it back with other fish, it becomes more aggressive than the oscars.

Hello, Lemon finned barbs, tinfoil barbs, iridescent sharks, and silver arowanas are known for their high growth rates.

To help you more effectively, we need some clarification, as we're a bit unsure about your current stock and tank size. Could you please provide answers to the following questions:

1.What is the size of the tank they are in? Are all the fish currently in your 4,800-gallon pond, or are they being grown out in another, smaller tank?

2.Could you list your complete, current stock? You mentioned having some Central/South American cichlids and Red Belly Pacus.

In my opinion, as your current stock grows, your 4,800-gallon pond might start to feel small, and you could potentially face space or aggression issue

5 oscars, 4 green terrors, 1 Jack Dempsey, 1 Blood red parrot, 1 Jaguar, 1 Dovii, 1 Motaguense, 1 Midas, 2 Red Devil, 1 Green Texas, 1 Red Texas, 1 Flowerhorn, 1 Vieja Synspilum, 1 Firemouth, 1 Salvini, 1 Umbee and 1 Red-Bellied Pacu. Besides blood red parrot and red texas that are 4-5 inches, the rest are 2-3 inches. All the fish are in the 4,800 gallons pond, around 6 metres in width, around 6 metres in length and 1 metres depth.

If it's still not enough, I still have a mud pond that are around 17,000-20,000 gallons

You’re aware that many of the cichlids you mentioned will become extremely aggressive and territorial as they mature, which could lead to serious problems. They also grow quite large, and even in a 4,800-gallon pond, they will compete for space and territory once they reach adulthood.

Additionally, Pacus have an exceptionally fast growth rate and can outgrow several of the fish species you've listed, potentially viewing them as prey over time.

I'm tagging a few expert members who can offer more detailed advice on how to manage this situation moving forward.

Can you guys help the OP by listing the cichlids which he should rehome/relocate ?

Yep, I might put the Pacu inside the 10,000+ gallons mud pond one if it outgrew my cichlids.
