Any Lobsters OK with Oscars?

Heh yeah old thread but I'd be worried for the lobster (when it molts) not the Oscars. Had one of those "Cobalt Blues" once and he was a good 6" - my 6" Dempsey devoured him in 1 gulp. Crustaceans make tasty treats - any carnivorous fish would be thrilled to have one to snack on.

@ScottieB: Did you have hiding spaces for it? I'm worried that I would make an expensive snack for my fish.

Every time I tried crawdads they ended up eating one or more of my fish, it happens at night when they eat and the fish are asleep, as well as the good chance that the fish will it the craw in the day, bad ending either way

If you decide to do it, be sure the crayfish has a very good hiding spot for when he molts

I put 4 crayfish a few days ago with my young Oscars, all I can say is thanks god I didn't spend money on the fancy "blue lobster" at the store, instead I got the cheap ones for $2. The crayfish are roughly the same size as the fish, at first the Oscars were scared, but a few days later 3 of the crayfish have no claws and are missing a few legs.

If you're wondering where the claws went:

By the way none of these crayfish have molted. They are being eaten whole, with shell and all. And my tank is full of caves and rocks where they hide, but they still have to come out eventually.

My advice would be to get the cheapest cray if you really want to have them in your tank, and enjoy them while they last.

But I have to say, they do a great job cleaning the tank at night. I've raised several types of crayfish and think they're a great addition to any tank. Be careful with australian red claw crayfish though cuz they're aggresive, grow huge, and eat your fish.

ive kept an australian blue yabby with my jaguars, FH, freddy, bichir for 5 months now with little problems. hes probably 6" in length the jags being about 9 and everything else being in the 5-7" range.

Also kept a commmon in a tank with my buttikoferi and he was just fine too. never got picked on or ate anybody else
