wait a sec, wasn't there a thread just the other day about you flight training her?

yeah, it was an old thread that was bumped. I did start to flight train her but never got to the point of taking her off the harness.

The best way I can describe them is a 2 year old that has a pair of bolt cutters and an air horn that you cant ever take away from them and they will never grow up and add to that they will be with you your entire life. I have Lucy a miligold macaw.

When she screams I can hear her from outside of my house sitting in my car with the radio on. When she becomes hormonal I better be on my toes and not make a wrong move or she will give me a nice fun love bite. And the amount of money you spend on them for toys can be $100 plus easily on toys. But even with these things she is by far the best animal I have ever owned with those two year old temper tantrums she has she also has unconditional love. There is nothing in my day that can make me happier than coming home and laying on the couch with Lucy cuddling up against my neck while she is mumbling to me while she is falling asleep. Before you get one I highly recommend doing a ton of research and trying to get some hands on experience for awhile.

I had an awesome miligold macaw that I really miss but I live in a one bedroom apt and it was not working out for her. I think if she had her own room, it would have been fine. They are as sensitive as 2 year olds and will throw tantrums like them too so be ready for that. Also don't expect to keep you hearing for long, they are deafening. Overall though, they are excellent birds and very loving. My Maya was absolutely adorable and loved to play with me and never bit or screamed when I was with her but as soon as I left the room, she would freak out and pitch a fit for about 10 minutes before quieting down. Again, I would still have her if I was not in an apartment. I miss her very much. Just dont make the mistake I did and be sure that you are ready for one.

Aw, you got rid of yours? That sucks..

And yeah, like everyone else said, they are sweet birds but take alot of care, be sure you are ready. Also make sure your neighbors won't complain, they are REALLY loud.

From someone who has had to tak 4 Macaws ( 1.1 Ararauna and 1.1 Chloroptera ) to the farm because of the noise they cause and the neighbourhodd related problems, I suggest you consider the location you live in and the impact of the macaw on the vicinity of your home.

having said that, they are amazing, beautifull pets.
