Any new foods out there worth trying?

BTW - there are probiotic strains that can survive up to 90 C, so while definitely heat sensitive, some strains can be used pre extrusion, others are added post extrusion after a cooling period. IME cheapest and most effective manner to add probiotics to ones system is add it to the water yourself. There's a sticky on the subject for anyone interested.

I've been watching videos on YouTube and came across the king of DIY making his own food out of white fish, shrimp, and scallops. He chopped them up and put a liquid multi vitamin in the mix and froze extras. Is this a good alternative as a once or twice per week thing to go alongside a high quality pellet?

I do a mix of Xtreme and Northfin most of the time. There's been "controversy" lately about most of the top foods the last while anyways, and these two are like half the price of NLS where I am. Results have been great so far since I started using them a few years ago.

Say what? Where are you buying your food, the local Big Al's?

That's an online store located in ON, and a great bunch of guys that I supplied when I was in the biz. The owner, Jason, is a stand up guy and has very fair pricing on most dry goods. The only way to save money on fish food is buying in bulk, in this case, in Canadian funds, NLS 2 kg buckets are $69.99 (unless one of the specialty formulas) and NF is $84.99 for 2.5 kg.

How does that work out to be half the price of NLS?

If your fish are either piscivore or omnivorous yes it would be fine to feed in rotation with the pellets.
