I feel you on picky fish. But the point of the matter is this fish chows any thing that is thrown in the tank never have had a problem feeding him any thing. Just cant imaginge bio gold taste that much different then the regular hikari gold. either way doesnt matter he will starve untill he eats it because now i have a 2.2 bag of it that wasnt cheap. I am just curious if any one that feeds hikari gold swithced to bio gold with the fish not eating it.
I have never heard of the liquid garlic method he will eat it when he is hungry enough he wont let him self starve im not to worried about that part thow.Maybe it just doesn't like something that it can taste. You could always try soaking it in garlic or dripping a drop or two of garlic in the tank. I would do the same if not for the smell lingering around the tank.
I have tried the Bio-Gold in the past and my Midas did not like it. It was not immediately accepted and the fight to get him to eat it was just not worth the hassle. thankfully the silver dollars ate anything and they polished off the food so no waste of money there. I have tried NLS and my fish took to it quite well but I saw no huge improvement in color with the exclusive feeding of the product for ten days so I used it all up and switched over to Omega One cichlid pellets. I feel this is a reasonably priced staple food and have not had issues with any fish not eating it.
My tiger oscar didnt like Hikari bio gold at first but has learned to like it, however he still prefers fish fillet and earthworms more, I recently switched to hikari staple, and he didnt like that either at first, then got used to it. spoiled little bastard!
Used to use Hikari.. The green and red bag.. fish never really liked it.. Switched to NLS and my fish can't get enough of it. NLS is like crack for them.
I tried that before and not a single fish of mine would eat it even after 12 days of not eating. And that is the limit i will starve any of my fish. All my fish eat better then i do and im a chef by trade.Mine will eat any hikari but the staple aka the green pellets. He won't even go near them.
IME a lot of it depends when certain foods are introduced into there diet. Often if they are brought up on certain foods it is difficult to introduce a new food. My best success is to vary the diet from juveniles and keep it varied. Often a adult fish will not take to a new pellet very well. Also to many treats can cause a hold out. I have even had fry get picky if I keep them on a certain pellet to long.
