HI Hi =^___^=

Im not sure if this thread should go under planted to General Salt, since it it is a combination of both. =D

Any one here ever made a Planted Nano Saltwater Tank! Instead of using Corals.. Most of it is Painters Brush with Turtle Weed and other Varieties of Saltwater plants =D

I think it would be a cool idea if someone did =D not as expensive as stocking up with Corals =D

Something different from the average Nano Reefs your see with lots of pretty corals =D instead lots of Green Saltwater plants =D

Any one? If not what do you guys think of it =^___^=?

I have seen many tanks that are saltwater and have plants with and without corals. It does look different since it not too many people do it. I'm going to add some sea grasses of some sort to my nano-reef soon.

that would be cool! i was treating a freshwater aquarium with itch with the salt method, and my anubias died withing a week, and all other plants got really bad. I didnt know they were THAT sensitive to salt. All of my fish lived and have been itch free ever since however. I guess this doesnt really relate to the post, except that make sure you research which plants can take the salt.

Hurray! People Repplied! That Makes Me REally Happy Happy! =^___^=

Yes yes Sarafino not many people or at least i havent seen much people do it! I say Go For it and add Sea GRasses in ur Tank!! Painters BRush or some sort looks nice! =D

hi hi wonword =D Sorry to hear about ur plants in ur freshwater :( yes most fresh water plants Will not do well in salt water =D well most likely will die with lots of salt :D lol but i ment to say Plants for a Full Saltwater Nano Tank =D

Instead of using Corals in a mini saltwater reef tank well use Saltwater plants and make a mini SAlt water planted Garden =D Fun Fun! Not as expensive and superior as a Full coral Nano reef, but... Different in itz own way! And Since itz plants Hopefully will reduce Nitrates and stuff =^___^=

Like umm 8 gallon Mini Garden of SAltwater Plants =D Just Like a Planted Tank =D but Mini Mini =^___^=

oh.. god.. yeah i've done it

you need SLOW growing plants and not terribly bright lights..

water quality is a bit of an issue.. as poor quality (high nitrates, phosphate etc) leads to excessive growth
but so does perfect quality..

barber brush algea Rhipocephalus spp.
palm calurpa
certain bubble algeas
and many red algeas are rather slow growing and interesting..

honestly i would just do a 'regular' tank and add some slow growing macro algea.. than dedicate a tank to algea.. it'd be easier to trim and the fish could get some sustainance from it..

i havent tried it yet but i've planned heavily for it. i want to get a [tiered] pair of 120s as filtration for a small shark pond, and i was thinking of making the top one a huge "display" refugium, with xenia and all sorts of algae/seagrass. [the bottom 120 will be DSB and lots of LR.]
biggourami has some good recommendations there, red halimeda-type algae look great and dont grow too fast, you should definitely look into those.

I use "Rhizophora Mangle" (Red mangrove) in my sump, they are flourishing in salt water. So there is no reason why they cant be grown in a Marine display system. But you must remember to keep the top leafs above water.

Hurray! i think my tank lights at too bright =S at least for the tank hieght itz sitting on lol. REgular nano 9wat coral light fixture with atinic and day light =D im guesing my plants will take over the tank liek u said big big gourami fish =D but i guese itz good becuase it eats nitrates and nitrates =D, but then again i wudnt want a jungle in a nano tank =S slow growing ones yes yes ill look for those ones big big gourami fish =^_^=

And also those ones ill look into alco =D btw i like the idea of ur DIsplay Refrigiremerum =D lol how about putting a froggy fish in it =D like an odd balll =^____^= DBS wow wow Star Fish Shifting Land =D FUn fun! =^___^=

AWw i dont think i wud be abble to put red mangroves on my nano tank :( no where to put it sump too small, but yes those red mangroves wud look interesting if i had a bigger tank =D

Thx Thx for everyones help in putting their imput! not i must find slow growing plants :D Fun Fun Many Thx =^____^=

Well i have not been on the site for a couple of weeks but i am actually starting a low/med light and low/med flow beginer corals mini reef 29g.. and plans include salt water plants... currently the tank has sand and a island of crused coral..base rock and a couple pieces of live rock from my current FOWLR tanks... korala pumps should arive today and iam still researching lights options with the plants/corals requirments ofthe ones i want.. and i have started the fish stocking as of today..sofar the list includes a green clown goby and a yellow clown goby(DOA).... i do have pic but i will start a thread of my mini reef when my new computer gets here(on order 4-6 weeks thru the wifes employer ) this one will not reconise my camera and this computer works when it wants to not when i want it to..
