has any body ever seen pics of large 24"+ silvers in the wild? maybe they do get drop eye, i have never seen proof that they dont, only heard that they dont.

My silver(25") that has DE in both eyes can't even grab crickets from the waters surface with much success. IMO a fish such as this would not survive in the wikd.

i do agree, but am still sceptical. either way i still want to see large wild aro's;)

My silver has pretty bad drop eye, but awesome aim on the food.

Agreed my other large silver (26") only has DE in one eye and has no problems with the crickets or any other floating foods. He's a little easier on the fingers too, just grabs the shrimp.

like I said, mine has mild DE in both eyes. He has better vision (or at least responds better to visual stimuli) than all my other fish

My 25" can see the food floating, just has a real had time zeroing in on it in order to retrieve it.

Most likely coincidence I know but every time Ive had a silver get drop eye it has started to develop it within a week or two after severely bumping its head on the top.

Same coincidence I had. Raised my silver from 3" up to 18" without DE. Got banged around trying to catch it for transfer to a larger tank, once in the larger tank I noticed the DE which developed within hours. Few months later the second eye develpoed DE after the silver freaked out during a w/c. Same result though DE within hours after the collision.

If collison might be a reason or a factor to why silvers get DE then has anyone tried putting like netting over thier tanks to soften the inpact? Im pretty sure this has been done but if it hasnt I wonder if it would help as a prevention.

Netting will help keep them in the tank. The impact of the collision is not always with the top of the tank though. When the first occurance of DE that happen to my silver there was no top even on the tank, and the tank only had 12" of water in it. I think the best thing would be to have them in a tank large enough so when spooked there is no chance of collision.
