any one raise Black Belt cichlids?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My black belts are doing well and i will update with a picture later..but wondering does anyones bb's that have a ragged looking tail..both of mine look like they are nipped .. i never catch anything going on... and no body else has this problem so maybe they are doing it to each other and i should remove one?? Or could it just be poor quality BB's..i hate this because they are looking so big and healthy and then their tails look like they have been through battle.. and once they get this ragged looking they take so long if ever to grow???

Recently one of mine killed the other and I finally had it so I threw the survivor in the 80 with community of 4-6" juvie CA's. My female FH didn't take kindly to the little SOB and does't let him leave the tiny little spot on the upper left corner of the tank behind the filter intake. His tail's shredded. :irked:

They are really a nasty cichlid..even though i like mine very much.. they just have over all bad attitude ..worse then my red devil and jags ever were..did not realize how nasty they can be..but better that they are doing it to each other then anyone else.. and they are fine except for their tails.. good thing they are in the 125gal because it would be a disaster in a smaller tank and i probably would have lost one too..

how big are your bb's now, mine are so dark atm must be what im feeding them, my are in no way mean though, dont cause any trouble at all

i will get a couple of pics.. they are about 4 inches

This really bothers me since they are so healthy and finally getting some color and their tails look so ragged.. but heres their pics..i wish i knew for sure they were doing it to each other but i never see them.. only a chase once in awhile..i want mine to look like John PTC's BB..

Any advice to get these tails growing back would be appreciated.. never had any fish with this problem before.. just a split tail.. i really like these guys even if they are nasty so i want them to look as good as they should..

It's odd that both of them would have tattered tails. You would think that the weaker of the 2 might, but not both. What other fish do you have in with them? Someone else might be the culprit.

Here's my 4" BB:
