you can starve them until they eat frozen food. This works for armatus but i'm not sure about baby scombs.
It worked for my old scomb. It was a LOT easier to get him to eat by using the fishing trick though.

+1 stay away from foods that have preservatives in it like silverside, they get sick off of it and can kill him. I would just stick with feeders, get a a tank you can house feeders in it so you can treat them and keep them for some time befor you feed them to him. Feeders will but some size on him, I've never had any problems with any of my payaras besides the ones I gave frozen foods to like silver side. Any frozen foods that arnt able to be eaten by humans I wouldn't use.Beauty Scomberoides! These guys are very delicate so make sure to keep up on your waterchanges and not to overfeed. I've kept all kinds of payara and even had some monster scombs about around 10"! Provided you take care of him, he will last you awhile. Stay away from smelt and aggressive tankmates. Goodlluck!

Thats why I feed talapia and shrimp. I just picked up another 20gal to breed my sons white clouds as a live treat for my other fish, and finally picked up my new powerhead.
salmon is my armatus' favourite food. It has a lot of nutrients plus it floats on top of the water.
Huh, I didnt know it floated. Personally id rather not use salmon, too oily.
