I have never owned a piranha, but they are having a sale at my LFS for 3 piraya, roughly $17.00. I currently have two 55 gallon tanks, the second tank isn't set up yet. One 55 gallon tank has 2 baby Midas (just trying to find out which one is a male) and on the other side of the divider a 6" Buttikoferi.

I am not 100% sure of my plans for the new 55g but owning Piranha or snakehead is probably what I will end up doing because I know my other 55 gallon is going to end up a single specimen tank with either the Midas or Butti which ever one I end up choosing.

I just want to know what are the cool things about owning Piranha? Ive been looking at vids on youtube and lately I've grown a little liking towards them. It would be cool to own a few with my black background, black sand.

You sure it's piraya? not red bellies because they price is way to cheap for piraya. Piraya are the most expensive out of all pygo.

You can easyl fit 3-4 small-medium red bellie or other pygo in there for a long time. but you will need 75gallon or bigger for them.

piranha is not a killer or mean fish like most people think it is. some piranha are very skittish and some are aggressive.

If you a biggener to piranha I suggest start of with red bellies.

Im a Piranha owner, and i used to keep cichlids for many years. Piranha have big teeth, Cichlids have big personality.
Cichlids are probly my favourite, Dovii etc... but i'm likin my new Black Rhom

Outh look at his location-That says everything about price-
Piraya is absoltuely the most amazing Piranha out there-IMO

But myself-I was into piranha's in a big way-Bought over 40 tanks to house them all-I am now a cichlid guy and will remain to be.....Way more variety to choose from...

if they are actualy selling piraya for 17.00 then you should buy at least 15 then re-sell them cuz they are usualy very pricey, they are amazing fish definately the best looking of the pygo family. As for piranha v. cichilids, from what you got id go cichilids. cichilids got more personality, and are prolly better for a 55, jus be careful cuz some will quickly outgrow a 55. if u do decide to get piranha dont do it on the basis of what u saw on youtube

if his location price are $17 then we USA got ripped off by the seller big time. Because piraya come from one location. plus it would cost more to ship piranha from South America to Japan then USA.

don't you think?

hey guys..

In general the majority of the fish here are quite expensive, like I've seen a thick 10" red devil going for $300.00, an 8" Dovii over $200.00, Red Tiger between that price.

But sometimes they have very good prices like Buttikoferi, Midas, Dovii, GT, FH for $4.00 for 1 1/2" fish.

I asked the clerk although is english isn't very good he has generally been helpful and is familiar with the majority of the species he carried. Probably asked him like 3-4 times if they were RBP's and he shaked his head and said Piraya.
