i am getting a salt water tank soon, it will be a 20long. i want to make a stand for it. it will be made out of 3/4 inch ply wood. i am going to get 4 24 or 36 inch pieces of threaded metal plumbing pipe either 1 or 1.5 inch in diameter with a flange (thing for attaching pipe to i wall) on each end. these pipes will be attached to the ply wood with wood screws. i need to know if this will work before i spend the money i will do a sit test before i put the tank on it.

will this work with a 55? maby with 6 pipes instead of four? this method seems to give a tone of space.

what do you mean? i want the ply wood because the single piece will support weight better than several planks. also the smooth look.

Are the pipes running vertical or horizontal?

you will need to figure out how to laterally support it and support the rim of the tank (the plywood will bow). Otherwise, it will work well.

vertical pipes imagine two pieces of plywood about 30 by 12 in between these pieces will be four pieces of pipe vertically separating them.

Since it is only a 20g long and 3/4" plywood, then yes it will work as long as you build well (cut with a fence, screw every 3-4 inches, etc.). The stand must have a top, bottom, and back. If you skimp on any, it will come back to haunt you later.

I am not so sure about the pipe though. Building a frame with piping will be tricky if that is your intention. It is unnecessary, but I am trying to figure out what you are trying to do. Also, screwing into metal pipe is easier said than done.
