We fertilized our yard over 2 months ago and even then we fertilize lightly because of all the kids.

And then in the recent post you said no fertilizer so I am confused.

You have asked for opinion and it has generally come back as do not risk it but it looks like you are looking for a different answer to that.

Risk it if you want to but it is a large risk for pregnant rays for no real financial benefit. Cannot see why you would run the risk?

I live kind of out of the way. I only have 2 neighbors any where near my property and even then they are a ways away. I have thought several times about starting my own worm farm. My rays and fish are both huge fans of nightcrawlers I buy them at walmart at least 8 containers a month. And then I am lucky enough that my BF is a seafood distributor and needless to say my fish eat VERY well. So I can pretty much assure that there isn't much fertilizer if any left in the yard. I live in Spokane Washington and we have had rain nearly every day for the last 2 months. It has been the wettest spring/summer in history! But yeah I don't want to push my luck either. Could I use the worms that the kids found today to start a worm colony? Thanks everybody for your input it is greatly appreciated. And it is great to see another Washingtonian ESPECIALLY another girl!!!

Yeah that's pretty rare to see a girl around the same area lol. It has been raining over in seattle too! We are never going to get a summer! Awesome that your retic is pregnant! How big is she? I have a male and he is growing so slow! I really want to start breeding rays at some point so I think i'm going to grab some motoros or something that grows a little faster. Yes, I love the aro but he isn't so little anymore! He is about 18" now. Just in like 6 months. I would be safe and not feed the worms if there was any fertilizer in the ground. But that would be a fin project for you and the kids to have a 10 gal dirt tank for breeding worms! Like paint the sides black and have a hood to keep it dark! Good luck

Ashley

gonna make me a worm farm! And no Toby I won't risk it I was just curious the risk realistically. I think alot of people here on the forum go to the extreme. I think will having 2 retics make it to adult hood in and of itself tell you how well I take care of my animals and then to have them breed do you rreally think I would risk something needlessly for a 12 cent worm? I was just curious as to the thoughts of others. And Ashley my female is right around 12 inches now I got her nearly 3 years ago and she was about 4 inches then. The male I got about 1.5 years ago from a friend he was around 6 inches then and is around 9 now. He has had fully mature claspers now for about 9 months. And my female is due any day! I believe she got pregnant March 10th when we noticed a big bite on the back of her disk. And the rain here has been out of this world!

Cool, You are one of the very few who have grown Retics to adult and that is pretty special. Keep up the good work and cannot wait to see the pups!

Thinking well hoping really that it is only one in there. My thoughts are maybe it will have a higher survival rate, and mom won't have a preterm pup if there is only one for her first litter.......
