any reason why this wouldnt work? (simple tank divider)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just cut some acrylic as close to the inside dimenstions of the tank as possible. I'd add a bunch of holes in a grid too to help with the water circulation. Then scoot the gravel away from the center or wherever you wanted to divide the tank, put the divider in the tank at an angel and then twist/slide it into place. Move the gravel back into place and if it's a snug enough fit it should. I did that with this tank and it seems to hold just fine. This one is a pretty small tank, but it should work just fine.

You can see some pictures of our divided tank if you're interested below:

i need to go to Lowe's and talk to the man that does the glass cutting and see if he can crop of the tips to make room for the silicon that's already in the tank. if he can cut glass panes at a 45 degree angle it'll solve my problem. otherwise im going to have to consider using acrylic. ill get back to you guys on this and let yall know what i find.

can't you get those portable dividers? I think they arn't glass though hmm

Why not use these suction cups instead of silicone?

- Cheap
- Easy to use, just slide the divider into the suction cups
- Instant, no waiting time for curing

are those aquarium safe? where did you find those? are they made for aquariums or do they have some other purpose? im worried about them being made out of metal like that... im more worried if they are painted black since im sure non-aquarium safe paints are full of chemicals that can end my fish in no time.

Jay88, it doesn't have to be glass, i was considering glass because i don't think i will be able to find a pre-made divider for a 29 gallon easily. i also don't trust one to be tough enough to keep a crayfish from busting through it to get to my fish.

another problem is that if you silicone it, it will be like 2 different tanks and youll need a filter on each side.

Even without siliconing it and just wedging a peice of plexi into the tank we still had to pick up a second filter for the other side of out tank. One side was spotless and the other looked filthy until we did.
