My wife and I spent all day driving around looking at RV's. We are looking at purchasing an RV, so we want to do plenty of research first.

The main question is whether to get a "Class-C" (Van-type chassis with cab-over) or a "Class-A" (bus-style chassis). I drove a class-A today and it wasn't too different than many of the work vans I've driven. School bus drivers have told me they much prefer the cab-forward (class-A) configuration.

Anybody have experience driving both?

Any feedback would be much appreciated. :)

I worked on RV's for over 25 years, sold them for 3 years, and owned a few too! Think of how you are going to use one. Are you going to go on short trips? Long trips? How many people will it need to sleep consistently? Is gas mileage a factor? Are you going to tow anything? A boat? Small car? Is storage a factor? Where do you like to go? Some camp grounds have a length limit! Who will be driving it? How much storage will you need? Are you going to dry camp without any hook ups? Doing good research is WORK! If you approach this correctly and do enough research you will enjoy your purchase....if not you will most likely make an expensive mistake! Feel free to PM me.

Great Questions! We will be going mostly on long trips. Only need to sleep two people. Mileage isn't that big of a deal, they all suck gas. I will be towing my boat, but it only weighs 1,000 pounds with the trailer. Storage of the RV isn't a problem, we live on acreage. We will be driving it to Mexico next summer, so bad roads are a factor. We will be taking a BBQ, dive gear, et cetera, so we will need storage. We have been looking at 24'-30' models, shorter is better but we want a queen-bed. We will dry camp for a day or two at a time, so it needs to be self-contained.

We definitely are going to do the research and shop around, we aren't the type of people to spend our money lightly.

Thanks for your help!

I have an older RV. We use it to go camping and bring our motorcycles to various places and go riding

Looks like fun!

We're looking for something in the 4-10 year-old range (depreciated, but still sort-of-new) and hopefully in the 18-30k price range.

I would love to buy a newer more reliable and comfortable one cause really they are so much fun. I would drive everywhere if I had a new one. That was our recent trip to maine from NJ. 600 miles each way and she ran great!! You will love it if you get it. I just got this one, its a 91 for $2500 with only 40k original miles from original owner. 6 beds, hope you get one keep us posted

i finance rv's class a diesel pusher, better resale, if you are thinking that far ahead, more room, up to 3 slide-outs.

Be SURE and get a used RV THOROUGHLY inspected by a knowledgable and reliable RV tech before purchasing, even if it is being sold by a dealer!!! I personally did ALOT of pre-purchase inspections and would almost ALWAYS find that a used RV would need at least $1,000 or more of repairs before it was safe and completely usable.

We found the RV we are going to buy, right in our home town!

It is a 30' 2001 Thor Infinity Widebody Class A motor home. It has a Triton V10 engine. We are going to take it to our mechanic tomorrow and if everything checks out we're buying it!
