any saltwater fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
bony marine fish can go as low as 1.009 SG. so i think thats damsels, tangs, triggers, puffers... ect. but only for short periods. someone here has a green chromis in 1.012. i wouldnt go any lower than 1.016 for long term health. marine fish are expensive. it sucks paying out for fish every week (thanks to a certain puffer) trust me.

if you want marine fish, just set up a marine tank with Live Rock ect. and keep the marine fish you want, with the corals and marine inverts that go with it. its no more difficult than keeping brackish, probably even easier.

i only want a high end brackish tank im just looking for some more exotic mangrove natives to add like snappers and batfish as well as tarpons they are saltwater thogh i just asked but it seems the hardy orbiculus batfish will thrive and get along with my other stock(monos, scats, archerfish, gobys, eels, large crabs) and as juveniles they also start off in brackish mangroves

Saltwater gets increasingly more expensive than brackish with the high lights for corals, overflows, refugium, sensitive fish, live rock, live sand, etc. If you dont mind me asking, what brings you to the conclusion that saltwater is easier than brackish? I have been wanting to do saltwater for a long, long time now and I cant seem to trust my self enough to do it.

apparently i dot really have to do much and it doesnt take long for juvanile batfish or mangrove snappers to be coverted to a high end brackish mangrove setup since thats pretty much were they come from and also juvinile sw eels that live near mangroves might also easily adapt

Forgive the late reply. My Internet has gone down at my house. So any responses will take a while, so bear with me.

Brackish is a dark art. There's not much info on the internet if some thing goes wrong in your tank. Plus there not much info about fish compatabillity. It's mainly the same profiles copied over and over. Even the suggested salinity can vary for a particular species, I've seen pages suggest FW lions/stonefish be kept in FW all the way up to high end brackish.

SW fish should be in 1.022-26sg and there is loads of info about keeping maintaining and solving any issues that could arise in the marine aquaria. This is the reason I think marines are easier. It's just an opinion, and every one i:)s entitled to one, even if it is wrong :)

imo its easier to take high end brackish fish to full marine and have the option of running a skimmer and adding live rock. then you could add sw fish, inverts, and maybe some basic corals like mushrooms.
assuming all your brackish fish could live in marine.

So lets say me for example my signature says what kind of high end brackish fish I already have... My SG right now 1.022.

Lets say I throw in a trigger fish and a Clown fish and a porc puffer in my tank....will it work out or will my current community of fish destroy everyone or vice versa?
