I would like some suggestions for a stand that will be used to hold up a 1000g glass tank. The glass weight should be about 600kg and the total with water about 5000kg.
Any ideas??

Do any of you MFK know of any threads or links to pics of a suitable stand design to copy for such a tank??
Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

cinderblock... maybe see if atlas can just hold it up for you? no im looking into a custom steel for one half that size. just curious who builds a glass 1000g tank? what thinkness glass is that? i need to see this

I don't know of any metal fabricators. so, I would build mine out of wood and build it to hold a tank, but that's just me.

Definitely steel.
Talk to someone at a metal shop. I am sure that you will find someone who has a little patience and is willing to work on an interesting project with you.
I think that you could do something neat with diamond plating, so long as it's not too much. Maybe a matte black/powdercoated finish regardless of the style you choose.

Powdercoating will also offer you corrosion protection.

2x2 square tubing 3/16" wall. Welded. Look under my past threads on my 750g build. If your anywhere near jersey ill give you a price

I am assuming this is on a concrete floor? I would be warry to place 5000kg onto a standard home wood framed floor.... And if it is on concrete, I would build cinder block posts that you could put 4 x 8 or 4 x 10 wood beams in. Cinderblock and morter is easy, and with the beams and everything i am sure that it would be cheaper than a custom fabricated steel stand

I'd probably do it out of 4x4's. depending on the the Length if the tank, 4 or 5 across the back and front, 3 across the width (sides), and 1 in the center.

Depending on the size of the tubular steel and the size of the tank, cross-bracing is used. Here's the stand for the 4,000 tank set up that csx4236 did.

I initially wanted cross-bracing on our stand, but we used 3 1/2" tubular steel, and didn't need cross-bracing.

Here's our overbuilt stand for our monster tank.
