South Jersey
I only had the regular... koi, turtles, snails, crawdads, rosies, guppies live and thrive in my 500 gal pond. All have made it through these southern jersey winters. Can anyone tell me a strange animal, such as invertebrate, reptile etc. I'm experimenting but would prefer to hear a horror or success story before i try!

Im pretty sure a snake lives somewhere under my pond. My dogs go nutz for it but can never catch it!!!

Nothing strange but toads and frogs visit each spring. The toads leave the pond area but hang out in the planting beds around the house all summer. I found a Spotted Salamander last year dried up on the road. I brought it home and placed it in an empty 15 gal. w/ about an inch of water. Within 10 minutes it was re-hydrated and walking around the tank. I kept it in there for a week or so feeding it worms and bugs to beef it up. I made a home under a small log for him and it stayed pretty much there for the summer. Didn't see it in the fall so it might have been hybernating already, but I can't wait to see if it comes to the pond in spring.

I got 4-6 Water Monitors in my pond....its about 80-100 feet in diameter...50 feet deep...

I put eastern spotted newts in my pond and they have been self-sustaining for 3 years now.

ive had, B.modesta, convicts, african cichlids, platies, plecos, many different snails and oscars during the summer months. This year i only have goldfish out there so i figure i'll do loaches like yoyo and clowns and maybe stick my big pleco back out there for another season
