I put eastern spotted newts in my pond and they have been self-sustaining for 3 years now.

I had the 6 fire belly newts when I lived in NY in backyard pond they lived roughly 5 yrs but never bred. The pond was about 5 feet deep yet the lived the winters no problem and got huge .

Than they sprayed (city sprayed -Long Island) for mosquitos in the area with helicopters and next late spring when I drained the pond as usual to clean it and refill it they were gone

Nothing strange but toads and frogs visit each spring. The toads leave the pond area but hang out in the planting beds around the house all summer. I found a Spotted Salamander last year dried up on the road. I brought it home and placed it in an empty 15 gal. w/ about an inch of water. Within 10 minutes it was re-hydrated and walking around the tank. I kept it in there for a week or so feeding it worms and bugs to beef it up. I made a home under a small log for him and it stayed pretty much there for the summer. Didn't see it in the fall so it might have been hybernating already, but I can't wait to see if it comes to the pond in spring.

same here I get the regular visitors LOTS treefrogs which I love mostly cuban treefrogs but some greens .
I have had many tadpoles and they are welcomed . They dont show up till later in Spring.
Small snakes thats about it nothing special
