You'll find, though, when you ask for advice on here you're going to get a basic generic answer: black background, white sand, natural rocks and stone.
in the end, its your tank, do what you want.

My O hated the background too and hated me for the change until 3-4 weeks after I changed it back. He likes me (somewhat) again now.
My O does't even like his fake plants. Can't imagine him putting up with even one that was real.
