my sister is starting up an african tank and wants peacock cichlids, does anyone have any suggestions for some nice looking colourful peacocks?and their tank setup?

Peacock and haps together make beautiful tanks. Id stay away from anything Mbuna because they are wayyy aggressive.
Personally i like the Strawberry and rubin red peacock. Yellow regals are nice too. For haps maybe a Red Empress Fire Hap.
There are alot of options out there.
A set-up with these 4 cichlids at lease 55gallons with adequite filtration.
This artical has good info on water specifications and hiding places for them. Also the food they need. http://badmanstropicalfish.com/articles/article49.html

Maybee a sunshine or german red peacock... There are soooooo many different colorations out there. Only the mature males will show really bright colors.

What size tank do you have?
Do you plan on doing an all male tank or just a single species tank?

That's retarded.. Beside the obvious fact of hybrid fry, the two females will look almost the same even if their of two different species. Also a two foot tank isnt even big enough to grow out fry. Wait until you get your 4 foot tank which i'm guessing is a 55 gal and do it then, with 1 male and how ever much females you want all of the same species please. Or go all male..

1. As long as the hybrid fry are not released to the public, why not?
2. That's is true, it is almost impossible to tell the difference between two different species of female Peacock Cichlids.

Eureka Red Peacock Cichlids have nice coloring, IMO. ;)

x2 i would wait for the bigger tank.
If she wants females you could do 1m/5f.

Check out the aulonocara section and you'll find plenty to choose from.
It doesn't make much sense to me to get different females just get female peacocks from the same species that your male is.
If you don't want to keep or sell fry then get some synos and they will take care of them.
