Any suggestions?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use limo tint from an auto parts store to dim my lights, it works great and you just lay it down under your light. 3 adult Red Belly's are gonna need at least a 75 gallon and probably should get a 90, they are territorial so you want to make sure they can all have there own little space to hover at the bottom. They should be ok for a very short time in the 20, but I would say you should upgrade as soon as possible. Good Luck

Well ty all for the replies on the P's. For starters they are in a 20 gallon tall but I have a 20 gallon long with just basic community fish in it now. I currently have no lighting for it b/c it is next to my sliding glass door and I don't think it needs extra. If I want it darkened I shut the blinds on that side so as long as that tank is there I will not buy any lighting for it. Secondly I am hoping to have the 55 gallon within the next couple months. Yes I am sure the 75 would be much better but with its added width opposed to the 55 I have no room for it. What is really bad is I was planning on getting some P's anyway but NOT YET! I have did much research and I know that a 20 gallon is way too small. Do you think they would do better in the long opposed the the tall? I can move the other fish.

Davey, can you please tell Whiplash that one? He's everywhere!! lol

Take into consideration the bioload that each piranha will put on your tank, a 75 would be better, but the 55 long could work for a short while. From what I've heard, when the fish start getting cramped, someone will probably get eaten.

My Philosophy is, NEVER get someone a pet as a gift without consulting them first!! They may not be ready emotionally or financially!!

OMG that is so true about getting someone a gift. I have done and told my brother off so many times it's unreal. As much as I want them I think I just might see if I can find someone or someplace to take them. I seriously cannot get a 75 which I do agree would probably be the best bet in the long run if I do keep them. I have already contacted the LFS near me but they say no that is one fish they won't take back b/c of the risk of the other ones they have there and they usually want to keep them together. They said that when you buy a P it's one fish you are on your own with as far aggression and the such. I don't know this is slightly upsetting. I wanted P's but not like this and now that I have them I guess for lack of a better phrase they and me both are screwed b/c if I do find someone to take them I want to make sure they also have a place for them. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok all I found my P's a new home. 75 gallon tank too. I just couldn't bear keeping em not knowing 100% if I could for sure get a larger tank in time for them. I still plan on getting a couple in the future but Im gonna wait. I gave em to a family member. Thank you all for your help it is much appreciated.

small p's will do good in a 20 gal LONG for a bit untill a bit larger

a 55 WOULD be good for life BUT it is so narrow for a trio so i recomend a 75 gal plus

3 p's are fine if you have a weak one it will most likly get killed if you have 2,3,4 or 100
its survival of the fittest so if its weak it will get killed no mater how many there are
