Any thoughts as to what this is?

Looks like a beani to me too. Although the last pic does look like it has a parachromis like elongated shape. Might be the angle the pic was taken though.

LOOKS BEANI BUT I CAN SEE HOW IT WOULD LOOK LIKE A HYBRID

Ok, explain the beani to me. I can see it in color, but as we all know that is one of the least reliable traits of accurately identifying cichlids. If we could tell what a fish was based off color we'd all be ichtheologists.

Going off of body shape it's a parachromis, not a beani. I also have never seen a beani with the color this fish has on the gill plate. Also, the scale pattern is much similar to the haitensis posted than a beani, which has a honeycomb pattern while this has a black dot on the center of each scale.

I'm not buying beani in the least. Here's a beani photo I jacked off the web. You can see the scale pattern is totally different. Honeycomb vs. light scale with a dark center. Jaw structure is well off as well from a beani. Maybe I'll have to go ask on the Cichlid Room Companion...

looks like losillei x mota hybrid it has the pattern of a paracrhomis losellei on the top of the fish and the shape of the body and face of a mota..

It's hard enough to breed a pair of beani so I'm not buying the Beani X _ _ _ _

It could be a mix of two parachromis?
