Any tips for feeding a Flagtail prochilodus??

Its not the flavor of the pellets, its the hardness of the pellets. If you want to discontinue using flakes, then you just have to stop feeding flakes. It will likely take a month or more, but ultimately it will eat pellets if that's all that's offered. Don't worry, a healthy fish can go for months without food. Its the same as training a fish off live food and onto pellets. You can help the process along by pre-soaking the pellets before feeding to soften it up.

Yeah, it seems like i will need to take this route. I bought the fish online and came in horrible shape. Ill feed it flakes and mix in soaked pellets for a few more weeks and get it healthy and then feed nothing but pellets until it eats them. Thanks!

Use a veggie clip and get dried seaweed from a local Asian markert.

Where did you find a flag tail at? I've been looking at all the lfs's and can't find one in Iowa.

Where in Iowa are you? I bought mine from an online vendor. I live in Iowa City, I've never seen flagtails other than once at pets playhouse in cedar rapids.

I'm in Cedar Rapids but usually go to coralville bay for equipment and livestock.

Has anyone noticed that they are rather clumsy when it comes to catching good in the water column? It's probably due to the position of their mouth which is designed more for sucking on things. I have a young flagtail that's about 3" . For now it's in my 55 gallon with Rummynose, cardinals and some Bolivian rams until it grows large enough for my 150 gallon with larger cichlids. I feed flake and NLS Thera. It will go after both but often misses lol. But I've noticed when it does catch a pellet it will spit it out. Seems to prefer the flakes. Probably easier for it to eat.

Anyway, I'd love to see pics of yours. Post some up when you can. Mine is a very slow grower. I can't until he starts to get some size on him.

Yep, mine too. I think its because of the design and position of their eyes. It doesn't seem to be able to triangulate on a small target directly in front of it very well.

Mine is a slow grower as well....only put on a bit more than 3" after nearly 2 years....but it is growing
