Any tips on making a "makeshift" lid to work with Eheim auto feeders?

I bought some Eheim auto feeders for while i'm on vacation. I don't want to cut holes in my hoods for the feeders, so I have to open the lid to use the feeder. I have fish that jump though, and all the "open" space needs to be covered. My idea was to cut cardboard to size, cover it in packaging tape, and tape it down so fish can't knock it loose. I'm sure my idea will work, but I was wondering if anyone had any better ideas.

That sounds good as long as the moisture doesn't get to the cardboard.

Cheap tank lids can be made out of corrugated plastic or styrene panels.

Those on my smaller aquariums and a glass lid with the plastic back on my big aquarium. I don't want to cut anything out, as the feeders are only temporary. I prefer to feed my fish by hand.

I use chicken wire. It looks awful and it'll cut you but you can bend and cut it to any size. Also plexy glass works well too. Our home depot will cut it down to and shape/size you want.

plex glass works great but you need to reinforce it or it will bend over time

buy another back strip to cut.it's like $1.50 a foot at my LFS.
