you defenatliy don't wan't to release them but it would be illegal to keep them as pets
even more illegal to breed or sell them.

i bet if you got caught with ONE that you caught in your home aquarium, they would just confiscate it, maybe a small fine.

I wouldn't risk it though. I don't see the attraction to snakeheads. they would be fun to catch and kill, though.

I've seen some maps that list a species of snakehead in California, but no pinpoint location. I think it would be a blast to fish for them; you guys that can are lucky :)

That does make me wonder. If you did catch one and told fish and game would they let you keep it in your home aquarium or make you destroy it ?

There are snakeheads in lake Erie and all the other great lakes they are considered invasive and a threat to native fish
They encourage you to catch them but you are supposed to kill any you catch.
there is a fine of some sort if caught with a live one check the fishing regulation I think it says how much.

They are illegal mostly because idiots who did not want them anymore dumped them in the local waters where they wrecked havoc on the local fish population

If you really like 'em, check out amia calva - bowfin. Look and act a lot like snakeheads
